Cincinnati takes its fireworks seriously, and the city's geography rewards the effort. From the right vantage point, a fireworks display over the Ohio River gives you the bursts in the sky, the skyline as a backdrop, and the river carrying the reflection of both below. I was positioned to capture all three layers when this display reached its peak — the colors in the sky mirrored in the water, the city's lights holding their place in the background.
What I love about fireworks photography over a waterfront is the doubling effect — every burst in the sky has a twin in the river, softer and slightly delayed, adding a second narrative below the horizon. Cincinnati puts on a show worthy of the setting. The Queen City lit up from above and reflected from below is a sight that justifies staying up late and hauling a tripod down to the river.
