Autumn Thoroughbred
Each piece is captured in a rare moment where light, time, and place come together.
I'd been photographing around Lexington during peak autumn color, when the horse farms show why Kentucky is called both the Bluegrass State and the Thoroughbred Capital of the World. I found this horse at a farm where the trees were turning brilliant shades of orange and red, and the late afternoon light was catching everything perfectly.
The horse came to the fence as I approached, ears forward, alert and curious. That direct engagement with the camera creates connection - this isn't a distant pasture shot but an intimate portrait of a thoroughbred in its environment. The black fence provides strong leading lines and graphic contrast, and the autumn foliage framing both sides creates natural symmetry while adding seasonal warmth to the composition.
What I wanted to capture was the convergence of Kentucky's signature elements - world-class thoroughbreds, the distinctive black fencing that defines these farms, the autumn color that transforms the landscape each fall, and that particular quality of light that happens in the hour before sunset when everything glows. The sky overhead was holding soft clouds touched with pink and gold, adding to the warmth without competing with the trees.
I positioned myself to use the fence as a compositional element - those horizontal rails leading toward the horse, creating depth and context. The horse's rich bay coat catches the warm light beautifully, and the direct eye contact makes this feel less like landscape photography and more like portraiture. This is a Kentucky thoroughbred in its prime, on a Kentucky farm during the most photogenic season, in light that elevates the entire scene from documentation to something worth preserving.

My Commitment
craftsmanship
Quality and craftsmanship sit at the heart of every piece I produce—long after the shutter clicks and long before a print ever reaches a wall. From meticulous file preparation to museum-grade materials and exacting color accuracy, each image is refined through a deliberate, uncompromising process designed to honor the moment it was captured. It is this final, critical step that transforms a fleeting encounter in the wild into a lasting work of fine art.
